What does it mean to thrive as an Asian in America? Jeremy Lin and his mom, Shirley, join the Glowing Up Asian podcast to discuss his glow-up origin story before "Linsanity" put the former National Basketball Association (NBA) champion on the world stage.
Throughout his childhood and college years at Harvard, Jeremy was a student-athlete finding balance between his schoolwork and basketball practices. He opened up about the stress he experienced and how he navigated those years with his parents’ support. Meanwhile, Shirley shared how she focused on character building above everything else – being upright, uplifting others, doing your best, and following faith. We also talked about childhood dreams, learning his heritage language and culture, and taking advanced math classes and piano lessons, as shared in the HBO documentary 38 At The Garden.
We also explore the years following as he learned to take better care of his mental health and became an advocate against the stigma, starting with his own parents. He also shared his work as an impact investor and philanthropist through the Jeremy Lin Foundation. Closing out the episode, Jeremy and Shirley share their hopes for the future as a new generation of parents raising their own children.
